An independent, fee-only advisory firm serving a select group of families and individuals — with portfolios we believe have been engineered for the efficient frontier of their own lives.
Every dollar carries an expectation. Our goal is to meet it — with discipline, with evidence, and with an unwavering duty to you alone.
Our name is our method. Mean–Variance Optimization sits at the heart of modern portfolio theory: the disciplined pursuit of the greatest expected return for a given level of risk — no more risk than your goals require, and no less return than your circumstances allow.1
The efficient frontier is a concept from modern portfolio theory describing the set of portfolios that, in theory, offer the highest expected return for each level of risk — and the least risk for each level of expected return. Portfolios that fall below the curve are considered inefficient, because another mix would be expected to deliver more return for the same risk.1
Our goal is to bring that institutional rigor to a small number of substantial relationships, pairing it with deep fluency in options, volatility, and tax — the places where we believe outcomes are quietly won or lost.
Allocations grounded in evidence and portfolio theory — not forecasts, fashion, or emotion.
After-tax outcomes drive decisions — asset location, gain management, tax-efficient structures, and the timing that may compound them.
Decades inside options, volatility, and derivatives — applied to hedging risk and pursuing opportunity.
Fee-only, independent, and free of commissions or proprietary products. Any potential conflicts of interest are fully disclosed.
We coordinate the moving parts of a sophisticated financial life into a single, considered strategy — and we are the people who answer when it matters.
Bespoke, globally diversified portfolios — including access to institutional alternatives — constructed and managed on an ongoing basis against your objectives.
Asset location, gain and loss harvesting, charitable and gifting strategy, and multi-account coordination — engineered to help keep more of what your portfolio earns.
Options overlays, hedging of concentrated or low-basis positions, and volatility expertise drawn from a career on the institutional side of the market.
Multigenerational planning, basis and legacy strategy, and seamless coordination with your attorneys and accountants — stewardship that looks beyond a single lifetime.
David founded MVO Private Wealth to help bring institutional-grade portfolio engineering to a small number of families who expect more from an advisor than asset allocation. His career spans the institutional side of the market — beginning in equity research and portfolio management at Susquehanna International Group, through equity, options, and volatility trading for institutions and family offices, to leading portfolio construction and investment strategy for an institutional-scale RIA.
That background helps inform MVO's approach: rigorous, evidence-based portfolio construction in the spirit of the efficient frontier, sharpened by deep fluency in derivatives, risk, and the tax mechanics that ultimately helps determine what a family keeps. David holds a BA in Economics from Villanova University and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the NYU Stern School of Business, as well as the CFA® charterholder designation. David built MVO as an independent, fee-only firm for one reason — so that our only obligation is to our clients.
Our structure is the strategy. We believe the way MVO is built — fee-only, independent, and without proprietary products — reduces conflicts of interest, and we disclose those that remain.
Why the most important question in investing isn't "how much can I make?" — it's "how much risk must I take to get there?"
